Guidance
What time is patrol?
You can patrol any time between 00:00 and 04:00. One full round of the neighbourhood takes about 60–70 minutes. You don't need to stay out the entire window — any time on the road during those hours makes a difference.
What route do I follow?
A recommended route map will be provided shortly. In the meantime, drive through the neighbourhood at a calm pace, covering as many streets as you can during your patrol.
What do I do during a patrol?
You're a spotter, not a responder — observe and report, never engage directly with suspects. If you see something suspicious, log the details (location, time, description, licence plate) and report it in the patroller WhatsApp group. Call SAPS (10111) for anything requiring immediate police response.
Do I need a security clearance?
Yes. A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from SAPS is a requirement for all patrollers. PNW arranges regular fingerprinting sessions with SAPS to make this as easy as possible. Check the events page for the next session.
What equipment do I need?
- Reflective vest (available from PNW, recommended so you are visible and identifiable as a patroller)
- Flashlight or spotlight
- Charged phone
- Optional: dashcam, pepper spray (must comply with local laws)
How do I arrange a swap?
If you can't patrol on your scheduled night, use the "Request swap" button on this page. Notify the WhatsApp group early so another patroller or your backup can step in. An admin will confirm the swap.

- Your safety comes first — avoid unnecessary risks
